About
Neeharika Shyju, also known as Neeru, is a classical vocalist and composer based in Australia. Her musical journey began at a young age with Indian Classical music and later expanded into Western Classical voice and composition. As an alumna of the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS), she developed a compositional approach shaped by storytelling, visual imagery, and close attention to sound.
Having spent her early childhood in Oman and completing her schooling in Australia, while remaining closely connected to her Indian heritage, Neeru grew up influenced by multiple cultures. These experiences shape her musical identity and her sensitivity to language, expression, and atmosphere. Her work ranges from chamber pieces to orchestral writing, often drawing inspiration from literature, art, and the natural world.
Neeru values music for its ability to bring people together—through performance, collaboration, and shared listening. She considers working with other musicians an essential part of her artistic growth and enjoys learning from different musical traditions. For her, music serves as a bridge between cultures and a means of creating connection.
Her work has been performed by youth orchestras in Australia, and she has appeared in competitions, broadcasts, and ensemble performances as both a soloist and collaborative musician. She is equally interested in interpreting existing repertoire and developing original work.
At present, Neeru is doing her undergraduate music studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. She is focused on expanding her practice through live performance and studio recording, with a growing interest in composing for other creative industries as she continues to explore new ways of telling stories through sound.
